Cabrillo College's special defense — No. 1 in the state in both points and yards allowed — had its way again, and the Seahawks snapped a seven-game losing streak to rival Hartnell in their Coast Conference opener Saturday night in Salinas.

Sophomore lineman Damond Carter had three of the Seahawks' six sacks and freshman defensive back Christian Rodriguez had two of his team's three interceptions in a 27-3 win over the host Panthers.

The ecstatic Seahawks doused third-year Seahawks coach Darren Arbet with a bucket of ice water after the win. They also danced on Hartnell's field and again in the locker room.

Cabrillo improved to 18-38-2 in the teams' lifetime series. The Seahawks are off to their first 3-0 start since 1997, when they won the 16th annual Lions Bowl to cap a 10-1 season under then-coach Steve Cox.
